Fauvists are awesome!
Colours have always been area of fascination for me. I never liked following a predicted palette because I find that boring and monotonous. Anyone can just paint a picture, but its the colours, mediums and styles that you choose to represent it in that makes the picture unique and defines your style.
Art for me is something that is supposed to take you to different cliche-filled world with happiness and peace and UNICORNS and i try to portray that in my work with bright, unrealistic colours. Now I am not talking fluorescent bright obviously, because that would just be silly. But just choosing a brighter hue, simultaneous contrasts, these things makes painting a picture a lot more interesting for me! Now enters “fauvism”- a short lived movement where artists worked with “faux” or false colours. The most famous of these artists and its leaders are Andre Derain and Henry Matisse!

This movement however wasn’t very popular and was short lived because oh fauvism was going against the rules of painting and no one likes people who don’t obey rules of course! However, I believe it is about time fauvists come back and I for one am definitely hoping to be inspired by the fauvists in my future work as well. I think in a world where butchers can become designers, and big bird from sesame street is considered a fashion icon, fauvism would definitely fit in -if not be considered normal!
